How it works
Maximize first-step explosion on the double-leg takedown using a reactive cue to eliminate hesitation and develop competition-speed entry.

Your focus
At the high school level, shot speed determines whether a takedown is successful far more than shot depth alone, because opponents are skilled at countering anything that is not fully explosive. Training with reactive cues removes the conscious delay between decision and action, building true first-step speed. This translates directly to cleaner, faster shot entries under match pressure.
Wrestler starts in stance 4-5 feet from a pad held by a partner or coach.
Coach randomly signals with a hand drop, sound, or visual cue, wrestler must immediately fire a double-leg entry.
Wrestler focuses on making the first step as fast and as deep as possible, driving through the pad.
Reset quickly after each rep; complete 8-10 reps with varied timing between cues to prevent anticipation.
Goal
You're there when your double-leg entry is at full speed off the reactive cue, no hesitation, just explosion.
Helpful cues
- First step decides the takedown, commit fully
- Level change and step happen simultaneously
- No wind-up, zero to full speed instantly
