How it works

Develop the ability to chain multiple maximum-speed shot attempts in succession, simulating the repeated explosive efforts required in a competitive match.

What you need

  • wrestling mat

Your focus

Matches are won by wrestlers who can fire multiple high-speed shots in quick succession without losing explosion quality, but most drilling only trains isolated shots. This complex forces the neuromuscular system to recover and re-accelerate rapidly, which builds the specific conditioning and speed endurance needed for multi-shot offense. It also trains the mental resilience to keep attacking at full speed after a failed initial attempt.

1

Wrestler starts in stance; on the coach's signal, fires a maximum-speed double-leg entry on a pad.

2

Immediately after contact, reset to stance and fire a single-leg entry on the same or opposite leg.

3

Reset again and fire a third shot, any entry of choice, with full explosion.

4

Rest 30-45 seconds and repeat the 3-shot complex 4-5 times; coach tracks speed quality across all three shots.

Goal

It's real when your third shot attempt is still explosive, you can repeat maximum acceleration, not just produce it once.

Helpful cues

  • Every shot is your first shot, full speed every time
  • Reset fast, your opponent isn't waiting
  • Last shot must be fastest, finish strong

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Reduce to a 2-shot complex with 20 seconds rest between each complex.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Have a live partner defend the shots after the first one, requiring the wrestler to react and chain into a scramble finish.
