How it works
Sharpen attentional focus by requiring wrestlers to count and self-monitor perfect technical repetitions during a timed set.

- wrestling mat
Your focus
Self-monitoring for quality forces wrestlers to direct conscious attention to execution rather than simply going through the motions. Counting only perfect reps rather than all reps creates an internal feedback loop that reinforces focus. This drill transitions wrestlers from mindless repetition to deliberate practice.
Coach assigns a specific technique to drill, for example, collar-tie to underhook entry.
Wrestler drills the technique for 90 seconds and counts only the reps that meet all coaching criteria.
After the set, wrestler reports their count to the coach, who verifies based on observation.
Repeat for 3 sets, aiming to increase the quality-rep count each set.
Helpful cues
- Only count it if you earned it, be honest with yourself
- Slow down slightly to nail the technique before speeding up
- Focus resets after every single rep, don't coast
