Your focus
Most match-deciding moments occur in the final period when mental fatigue is at its peak; wrestlers who have trained attention under this condition hold a significant competitive advantage. Focusing on a specific technical task , not just effort , keeps cognitive resources deployed where they matter. This drill builds the mental endurance that separates elite wrestlers from average ones.
Run a 5-minute live drilling or situational round at moderate intensity to induce genuine fatigue.
Stop the clock with 60 seconds remaining and give each wrestler one specific focus cue: 'Attack with a low single on every exchange.'
Resume live action for the final 60 seconds; wrestlers must execute the assigned focus task.
Debrief: wrestler self-reports whether they executed the focus task, and coach provides observed feedback.
Helpful cues
- One job, one minute, execute the plan
- Tired is fine; distracted is not
- See the opening, commit to the attack, no hesitation
Adjust the challenge
Make it easier
