How it works
Develop the ability to maintain drilling technique while teammates and coaches intentionally create distractions.
What you need
- wrestling mat
Your focus
Crowd noise, coaches shouting instructions, and nearby action on the mat can break a young wrestler's concentration at critical moments. Practicing technique under manufactured distractions builds psychological noise-filtering skills. Wrestlers who train this way compete with greater composure in loud tournament environments.
Two partners begin a standard drilling sequence, alternating single-leg finishes for 60 seconds.
Remaining teammates and coaches stand nearby and create controlled distractions: clapping, calling names, shouting unrelated instructions.
Drillers are instructed to complete every rep with full technical focus regardless of the noise.
Coach quietly evaluates and debriefs which reps showed technical breakdown due to distraction.
Helpful cues
- Block the noise, lock into your partner's hips
- Finish every rep as if a referee is scoring it
- Your mat is your world, nothing outside matters right now
