How it works

Build sustained top position effort by training wrestlers to aggressively pursue riding time throughout a full round.

What you need

  • wrestling mat

Your focus

Riding time requires relentless top-position effort , the moment a wrestler mentally relaxes, the bottom wrestler escapes. Training specifically to maintain sustained aggression on top builds the effort habit that translates to riding time points in matches. Wrestlers who dominate top position control match tempo and scoring opportunities.

1

Bottom wrestler's goal is to escape; top wrestler's goal is to prevent it and score near-falls.

2

Three-minute round with a fresh bottom wrestler entering every 60 seconds.

3

Top wrestler must maintain chest-to-back or tight waist and actively try to break the bottom wrestler down.

4

Coach tracks seconds of control and near-fall attempts, quantify effort.

Goal

You're there when your riding time keeps increasing across the round, you're not just holding on, you're actively working to stay on.

Helpful cues

  • Attack the hips before the shoulders
  • Riding time is earned second by second
  • Pressure comes from effort, not muscle
