How it works
Develop wrestling-specific conditioning and effort by combining live scrambling with structured conditioning demands.
What you need
- wrestling mat
Your focus
Wrestling conditioning must mirror the effort bursts and recovery patterns of actual matches, not just general fitness. This drill creates authentic match-intensity effort while building the specific metabolic fitness that wrestling requires. Wrestlers who are conditioned through wrestling-specific drills maintain effort levels in late-match situations.
Live scramble for 30 seconds, maximum effort, both wrestlers attacking.
Immediately: both wrestlers do 10 sprawls without stopping.
Return to live scramble for 30 more seconds.
Repeat for five total scramble-sprawl cycles; no recovery between cycles.
Goal
Success is your last scramble being just as sharp as your first, conditioning effort shouldn't slow down your technical effort.
Helpful cues
- The scramble doesn't care if you're tired
- Condition your engine, not just your muscles
- Push through the burn, matches are won there
