How it works

Simulate a match deficit scenario and train wrestlers to compete with composure and urgency simultaneously.

Your focus

Being down on points late in a match is a high-pressure scenario that causes many wrestlers to either panic or shut down. This drill repeatedly conditions the athlete to perform technically while managing internal pressure. The repeated exposure to deficit situations builds genuine mental toughness.

1

Set a 90-second live round; inform the working wrestler they are down four points with 90 seconds left.

2

Wrestler must attack and score while maintaining technical composure, reckless attacks are penalized.

3

Coach calls out remaining time at 60, 30, and 10 seconds to add pressure stimulus.

4

After the round, wrestler self-evaluates: rate composure 1-5 and identify one decision they would change.

Goal

It's clicking when being down on points produces focused effort, not desperate moves, urgency and composure at the same time.
