How it works
Introduce young wrestlers to the concept of recovering quickly after being taken down and immediately re-engaging.

Your focus
Young wrestlers often freeze or become discouraged after a takedown, which compounds the scoring deficit. Teaching an immediate get-up response builds resilience as a physical habit before it becomes a mental one. Early repetition of this behavior creates wrestlers who never stop competing.
Partner lightly guides the wrestler to the space in a controlled takedown.
Coach immediately calls 'go', wrestler stands up and returns to wrestling stance as fast as possible.
Repeat eight times; coach counts how fast the wrestler returns to stance and celebrates improvement.
Wrestlers switch roles and repeat.
Helpful cues
- Down means up faster
- Get up before they celebrate
