How it works

Simulate the communication dynamics of a team dual meet to build collective accountability and real-time teammate support skills.

What you need

  • wrestling mat

Your focus

The dual meet environment is fundamentally a team communication challenge , wrestlers performing individually while teammates, coaches, and opponents fill the room with competing noise and pressure. Practicing in a simulated dual meet setting trains wrestlers to filter relevant communication (corner coach, teammates) from noise and to give effective support when they are the one watching. Team cohesion built through shared competitive experiences in practice transfers directly to match-day performance.

1

Divide the team into two squads for a full team scrimmage in dual meet format with weight classes and team score kept.

2

Assign corner coaches from each squad's wrestlers who are not currently competing.

3

Require all non-competing wrestlers to be engaged in active the boundary communication (encouragement, cues) for their teammates.

4

Post-scrimmage team debrief: review team score, recognize excellent communication moments, and identify where communication broke down.

Helpful cues

  • The corner coach sets the tone, calm and clear, or panic, choose
  • A team that communicates in practice communicates in a real dual
  • Team score is built by individuals, communicate that connection out loud

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Run only three weight classes to reduce complexity and allow more focused communication.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Add a crowd noise simulation (music or crowd sounds) to increase the communication challenge.

Build a practice plan

Add drills, keep the plan in this browser, then share a link with your staff or parents.

This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.

After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
