Your focus
Athletes who have rehearsed pressure situations perform better than those encountering them for the first time in a real match. Deliberately creating game-point and serve-to-stay-alive scenarios in practice builds emotional familiarity with stress. Normalizing pressure is a core component of competitive mindset development.
Set up a 6-on-6 scrimmage but only play from 22–25 (last 3 points of a set) repeatedly.
Reset the score to 22–22 after every mini-set so every game is a high-stakes moment.
Introduce a twist: losing team must 'earn back' a point by completing a specific skill task before the next game.
Debrief: what did your mind feel like at game point? Did your routine help? What will you do differently next time?
Helpful cues
- This is supposed to feel uncomfortable, lean into it
- Focus on the process point by point, not the scoreboard
- Your mindset is a choice in every moment
