How it works

Empower senior players to design and lead a complete team warm-up to build ownership and build coaching competency.

What you need

  • volleyball
  • net
  • cones

Your focus

Players who understand why warm-up sequences exist become more invested in the process and perform them with greater intensity. Leadership through teaching deepens individual understanding of physical preparation. This drill cultivates future coaches and creates accountability in the pre-practice environment.

1

Assign a different player each week to design a 10-minute warm-up that includes dynamic movement, ball-handling, and one mental reset activity.

2

Player submits their plan to the coach 24 hours in advance for a quick review (safety check only, not evaluation of creativity).

3

Player leads the entire warm-up, cuing timing, form, and energy with their voice.

4

After practice, coach and team give the leader one piece of positive feedback and one suggestion for next time.

Helpful cues

  • Project your voice so the last person in line can hear you
  • Explain the why: 'We're doing this because...'
  • Read the room, if energy is low, change the activity tempo

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Provide a warm-up template with time blocks already set; player fills in the specific activities.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Leader must also incorporate one skill focus from the previous week's game film into the warm-up.

This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.

After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
