How it works
Sharpen the setter's ability to simultaneously track a pass, read block positioning, and make a high-pressure set decision under fatigue.

Your focus
Elite setting requires split attention , the setter must process multiple streams of information in under 1 second. Training this under physical fatigue forces the nervous system to maintain focus quality even when tired. This drill mimics the cognitive demands of late-game setting decisions.
Setter completes a 30-second sprint circuit (shuffle side to side between cones) then immediately takes position at Zone 3.
Coach tosses a free ball; setter must call 'outside,' 'middle,' or 'back' based on where a designated blocker (coach signals with hand) is positioned.
Setter makes the correct set to the opposite of the blocker position.
Run 10 consecutive reps, tracking decision accuracy, then rest 90 seconds and repeat for 3 sets.
Goal
It's clicking when your setting decision is made before the pass arrives, you read the block, you tracked the pass, you already know the set.
Helpful cues
- Eyes to the block before you catch the set
- Make the call early, commit and go
- Fatigue will blur your focus; breathe and narrow your vision to two targets
Adjust the challenge
Make it easier

Add the next challenge
