Your focus
Elite servers use brief, repeatable focus routines to reach an optimal arousal state before contact. Teaching this early creates a mental anchor that players can rely on in high-stakes moments. A standardized routine reduces serve errors caused by rushing or overthinking.
Coach introduces a 5-step routine: bounce ball twice, look at target, take one deep breath, shift weight to back foot, toss and swing.
Players practice the routine in a single-file line at the boundary line, serving one at a time.
Coach introduces a 5-second time limit, if player breaks routine, they reset and start the sequence again.
After 3 successful routine serves each, players attempt 5 in a row under simulated game pressure (teammates watching, silent gym).
Helpful cues
- Same routine every single time
- The routine is your signal to focus, trust it
- Don't rush, 5 seconds is a long time
