Your focus
Combining competitive drive with physical effort trains the habit of competing hard when the body is stressed , the exact condition that defines close late-set situations. Players who have raced to earn their conditioning points develop the association between physical discomfort and competitive opportunity rather than discomfort and avoidance.
Two teams compete in a best-of-5 rally game; however, a team earns a rally point ONLY if they touched the ball at least 3 times, sideouts not earned with 3 touches count as conditioning sprints (both teams sprint to the net and back).
This incentivizes competitive, effort-filled play: teams cannot win cheaply, they must earn every point through quality teamwork.
After each sprint, coach adds an effort evaluation (did both teams sprint at maximum?), teams that walk get no reprieve and must do a second sprint.
First team to 15 wins; compare final sprint count, higher sprint count signals lower-quality competitive effort and drives honest discussion.
Goal
You're there when the team is pushing harder on conditioning because it earns points, the competition makes everyone work more.
Helpful cues
- Three touches or sprint, make the choice
- Competing is earning, shortcuts don't count
- Every sprint is your team's competitive debt, pay it fast
Adjust the challenge
Make it easier
Strip it back
Require 2 touches instead of 3; reduce game to first to 10.UpLVL it
Add the next challenge
Increase touch requirement to 4 for bonus points, teams that achieve 4-touch rallies earn 2 points instead of 1.No account needed
Build a practice plan
Add drills, keep the plan in this browser, then share a link with your staff or parents. This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.
After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
