How it works
Improve footwork coordination and spatial body control by mirroring a partner's movements before passing.

Your focus
Volleyball requires simultaneous coordination of foot movement and upper body positioning , skills that must be practiced together, not in isolation. Mirror movement drills train the body to move athletically as a unit, establishing the kinesthetic awareness needed to arrive at the ball in a balanced passing platform. This foundation prevents the common 'reaching' error caused by poor footwork.
Partners face each other 10 feet apart; the leader moves laterally, forward, and backward for 60 seconds while the mirror player shadows every movement exactly.
Switch leader and mirror roles; repeat 60 seconds.
Now the leader tosses the ball to a side requiring the mirror player to move, arrive, and pass back, one motion from mirror to pass.
Progress to coach calling 'Switch!' mid-drill so neither player knows who leads; both must read each other's first step.
Goal
It's clicking when your feet arrive before the pass, you're set up and balanced at contact, not still moving.
Helpful cues
- Move your feet first, then your arms
- Arrive early, never reach
- Your feet carry your platform
Adjust the challenge
Make it easier
Strip it back
Limit movement to lateral only (no forward or backward) for the first week.UpLVL it
Add the next challenge
Leader varies speed randomly, slow shuffle to sprint, requiring mirror player to adjust their body control at different tempos. No account needed
Build a practice plan
Add drills, keep the plan in this browser, then share a link with your staff or parents. This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.
After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
