How it works

Develop confidence in game-situation communication by rotating the leadership voice role during scrimmage play.

Your focus

Confident volleyball players communicate early and clearly , calling the ball, directing traffic, and making audible decisions under pressure. Rotating the 'captain's call' responsibility into every player's hands forces them to practice speaking with authority in live play. The repetition of being heard and having calls respected builds communication confidence that feeds into overall competitive confidence.

Designate one player per 6-player team as the 'Captain' for a 5-minute scrimmage block; the Captain must verbally call every ball they or a teammate should take.

Non-captain players are encouraged to call their own balls, but the Captain must confirm or redirect with a louder call, no silent plays allowed.

After 5 minutes, rotate the Captain role to the next player clockwise; all other rules remain.

Debrief: ask each Captain what it felt like to have authority and what they would do differently next time.
