How it works
Help players reframe errors as learning data rather than personal failures during a controlled passing drill.
What you need
- volleyball
- net
- small whiteboard or paper
Your focus
Resilience grows when athletes see mistakes as information rather than identity. Tracking errors without judgment , then identifying one adjustment , builds metacognitive habits that carry into competitive play. Teams that debrief errors constructively recover faster between points.
Pairs partner up across the net; one tosses, one passes. Each passer tracks their own error count on a slip of paper for one 3-minute round.
After the round, each player writes down their error total, then writes ONE technical reason for most errors (e.g., 'arms bent on contact').
Players share their one adjustment with their partner and run a second 3-minute round focusing only on that adjustment.
Compare error counts between round 1 and round 2; celebrate improvement regardless of total number remaining.
Goal
It's working when you track your errors without negative self-talk, each one is just data, and you move to the next rep immediately.
Helpful cues
- Errors are data, not disasters
- Name it, fix one thing
- Your next rep is a fresh start
