How it works

Develop elite coachability by watching personal performance video, identifying errors, and responding with purposeful practice.

What you need

  • video recording device
  • playback screen
  • volleyball
  • net

Your focus

The most coachable athletes welcome video review because they see it as information, not criticism. Learning to evaluate your own technique objectively , then immediately taking the court to address what you saw , closes the gap between knowing and doing. This is the same process used in high-level college and professional volleyball programs.

1

Record a player performing a skill (serve, attack, or pass) for 10 consecutive reps.

2

Player watches the footage alone or with the coach, identifying 2-3 specific areas to improve.

3

Player writes their corrections on a notepad before the coach says anything.

4

Coach and player compare observations, discuss agreements and disagreements respectfully.

5

Player takes the space and performs 10 more reps, consciously applying identified corrections. Compare before/after percentages.

Helpful cues

  • What do you see? Start there, not with what I see
  • Disagreeing with feedback is okay, dismissing it without trying is not
  • The camera has no agenda, believe what you see
