Your focus
Coachability is only valuable if the player can apply feedback immediately, not just acknowledge it. This drill builds the habit of making micro-adjustments after each rep based on what the coach observed. Over time, this rapid feedback cycle dramatically accelerates skill development compared to repetition without correction.
Player passes balls tossed by a coach or parent (10 balls per sequence).
After each pass, they give one specific technical cue ('Platform was angled right, square it up').
Player must verbally confirm ('Got it, square the platform') before the next toss.
On the next pass, they check whether the cue was applied.
Track improvement: how many players apply the feedback correctly on the very next rep? Goal is 80% same-rep application.
Goal
It's working when the rep after coaching feedback looks noticeably different from the one before, you heard it, you changed it, right away.
Helpful cues
- Say it back so we both know what we're working on
- One thing at a time, fix the most important thing first
- If you don't know what to fix, ask, that's coachable
