How it works

Build elite coachability by having players track their own response to coaching corrections across a full practice.

What you need

  • volleyball
  • net
  • whiteboard or notepad

Your focus

Self-awareness of one's own coachability is rare but powerful. When players actively monitor whether they applied feedback, they become partners in the coaching process rather than passive recipients. USA Volleyball IMPACT identifies player self-monitoring as a marker of high-ceiling athletes.

1

At the start of practice, each player receives a card with two columns: 'Feedback Received' and 'Applied?'

2

During every drill, players write down each coaching correction they receive.

3

After the next rep, player marks whether they applied it (Y/N) and rate their response honestly.

4

At practice end, players review their cards and identify patterns: recurring corrections, delayed application, or adjustments they resisted.

5

Players share one insight with the team: 'I noticed that I struggle to apply feedback on _____ right away.'

Helpful cues

  • Writing it down makes it real
  • Resistance to feedback is a habit, not a personality, you can change it
  • Your card doesn't lie, own what's on it

This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.

After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
