How it works
Define your best-version athletic self in three specific observable traits, then audit every rep against that standard.
Your focus
Athletes often perform to the standard of the moment , tired, distracted, going through the motions. This drill makes the standard explicit and personal, raising the ceiling of what 'good enough' means. The recurring question 'would my best version do that?' becomes an internal coach that operates independently of external feedback.
Describe your best-version athletic self in three specific, observable traits. Example: 'Fast on my first step. Composed when I miss. Never quits early.'
Write them down or state them to the coach.
For each rep, ask silently: would my best version do that?
When the answer is no, stop, reset, and attempt the rep again to the stated standard.
Debrief: which trait is hardest to maintain? What's the gap between that trait and your current default?
Goal
Player completes ten consecutive reps without a reset for any of the three traits.
Helpful cues
- Your best version has already decided how this rep goes
- Reset is not failure, reset is the drill working
- Make the traits observable, 'great' doesn't count as a standard
