How it works
Track where mental attention is actually going during a drill, past, future, or present, and redirect it in real time.
Your focus
Athletes lose performance not through lack of effort but through misallocated attention. Thinking about the last missed rep (past) or worrying about what's next (future) both prevent the present-focused execution that peak performance requires. This drill builds the meta-awareness to notice and redirect attention in real time.
During a drill, coach calls 'check' at random intervals (three to four times per drill).
Player stops and immediately categorizes their mental attention: Past (replaying something), Future (anticipating something), or Present (this moment only).
If not Present, do a 3-second reset: one breath, name one thing you can control right now, then continue.
After the drill, report your Present percentage for the session.
Set a session goal (start at 50% Present, target 80% over four weeks).
Goal
Player self-reports 75% or higher present-focus for two consecutive sessions.
Helpful cues
- You can't change where your attention was, only where it goes next
- Present doesn't mean relaxed, it means HERE
- The reset IS the skill, not the absence of distraction

Build a practice plan
Add drills, keep the plan in this browser, then share a link with your staff or parents. This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.
After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
