How it works
Develop the ability to execute a three-shot rally pattern that moves the opponent and creates a clear winner opportunity.
What you need
- tennis balls
- tennis racket
- cones
- full court
Your focus
The triangle pattern , wide, recovery, opposite angle , is a high-percentage winning sequence used at all competitive levels. Practicing specific multi-ball sequences teaches players to construct points with intention rather than reacting randomly. This drill also builds the footwork and recovery speed needed to execute the pattern under pressure.
Mark three cones forming a triangle: one wide deuce, one wide ad, one short middle.
A parent or coach feeds ball 1 to deuce corner; player hits cross-court wide (cone 1).
A parent or coach feeds ball 2 to center; player redirects to ad corner (cone 2).
A parent or coach feeds ball 3 short; player attacks the short ball to the short-middle cone (cone 3) and moves through the shot.
Complete 6 cycles then reverse starting side.
Goal
You're there when you can feel the pattern working, each shot positions you better until the winner opportunity opens up naturally.
Helpful cues
- Reset feet between every ball.
- Aim past the cone, not at it.
- Accelerate on ball three, that's the put-away.
