Your focus
Match environments are filled with noise, movement, and unexpected events that break concentration; training in simulated distraction builds immunity to those triggers. Players learn that focus is an active skill they can maintain by choice, not a passive state dependent on environment. This drill builds the mental resilience that separates players who perform in tournaments from those who only perform in practice.
Two players begin a cross-court rally from the baseline, aiming to sustain 20 shots.
At random intervals, the coach calls out a distraction: drops a ball, shouts a score, or whistles.
Players must acknowledge the distraction internally (without reacting physically) and continue the rally without interruption.
After the rally ends, players discuss which distractions were hardest to ignore and what internal cue helped them refocus.
Goal
Success is your shot quality staying the same when the distractions are loudest, if the noise or movement doesn't change your swing, your focus is real.
Helpful cues
- Hear it, ignore it, watch the ball
- Your focus is your decision
- The rally is the only thing that matters right now
