How it works
Simulate the physical and mental demands of a long competitive match by completing five consecutive high-intensity point scenarios with minimal rest.
What you need
- tennis racket
- tennis balls
- court
- ball hopper
Your focus
Playing through cumulative fatigue in a structured drill setting trains players to execute under the same physiological stress they experience late in a third set. The varied point patterns prevent adaptation and require constant tactical adjustment. Short rest intervals develop rapid physiological recovery, a critical skill for tight matches.
Coach designates five consecutive point scenarios: a 10-ball baseline rally, an approach-and-volley sequence, an overhead recovery, a wide ball sprint return, and a serve-plus-two pattern.
Player executes each scenario back-to-back with only 15 seconds rest between scenarios.
Each scenario ends when the player wins the constructed point or makes a forced error; coach tracks outcomes.
Complete three full gauntlets with 90 seconds rest between each; debrief recovery strategies after the session.
Goal
It's real when you finish all five point scenarios and your effort on point 5 matches point 1, that's the stamina a long match needs.
Helpful cues
- Use the 15 seconds, breathe, bounce, reset
- Attack the short ball even when tired
- Quality over speed on the recovery step
