Your focus
Serving and returning under match-point pressure is one of the most skill-dependent mental challenges in competitive tennis. Repeated exposure to being down match point and fighting back rewires the threat response into a performance response. Converting match points under pressure requires the same composure skills in the opposite direction.
Set up a live-point scenario: player is down 5-6 in the third set, 15-40 on their own serve (two match points against them).
Player must win both points to hold serve; opponent plays aggressively. If the player loses either point, the drill resets immediately to the same score, no rest.
Once the player successfully holds serve, the score shifts: they now serve at 6-6 in a tiebreaker and must win the tiebreaker from 4-6 down.
Debrief focuses on shot selection, serve strategy, and body language at critical moments; target is to complete the gauntlet clean in under 20 minutes.
Helpful cues
