How it works

Your focus
Players at this age often carry the emotional weight of a missed shot into the next exchange, leading to double errors. Structuring a comeback point scoring system rewards immediate recovery and reframes errors as opportunities. This develops mental toughness early in match-like conditions.
Players rally crosscourt cooperatively; coach keeps a running error count for each player.
When a player makes an error, coach immediately announces 'Comeback point!' and that player must win the very next rally to erase the error from their mental tally.
If the player wins the comeback point, their tally resets; if they miss again, they must complete a quick physical reset (e.g., two deep breaths or a fist pump) before continuing.
After 15 minutes, the player with the fewest uncanceled errors wins the set.
Helpful cues
- Reset your mind between points!
- Win the next one, that's all!
- Breathe out the miss, breathe in focus.
