How it works
Dribble through a simple cone course using only the weak foot to begin developing bilateral foot skill.
What you need
- cones
- soccer ball
Your focus
Developing the weak foot early prevents it from becoming a permanent weakness. Young players whose weak foot is trained before habits solidify develop into two-footed players , dramatically expanding their options and effectiveness in every situation.
Set up 6 cones in a slalom, 2 yards apart.
Player may only touch the ball with their weaker foot.
Walk-pace first: feel the contact, placement, and control.
Progress to jogging pace after 3 slow passes.
Final 2 passes: game-like pace.
Repeat 5 times; encourage effort without expecting perfection.
Goal
You've got it when the ball stays close to your foot through all the cones, not perfectly, but close enough that you never have to stop and fetch it.
Helpful cues
- Your weak foot learns by doing, don't avoid it
- It will feel awkward, that's normal, that's growth
- Use the same parts of the foot as your strong foot: inside, laces, outside
