Your focus
Elite performers use structured pre-performance routines to reliably access the right mental state. Teaching players to design and practice their own routines , breathing, visualization, affirmations , builds psychological readiness as a trainable skill.
Coach introduces 3 mindset tools: breathing reset (4-4-4 pattern), visualization (see yourself succeeding), power statement (one personal affirmation).
Players spend 5 minutes building their personal 2-minute pre-game routine using these tools.
Share routines in pairs; refine with feedback.
Before the next practice scrimmage, all players run their routine simultaneously.
Post-scrimmage: how did the mental state feel compared to normal?
Repeat for 3 consecutive sessions to build the habit.
Helpful cues
- Your routine is yours, it doesn't need to match anyone else's
- Consistency makes the routine powerful, same order every time
- Visualization: see specific moments, not just general success
