Your focus
Set pieces fail in games because players lose focus on their specific role when the complexity of the game intrudes. Dedicated set piece focus training , where every player must perform their exact role , builds the attentional discipline that converts preparation into goals.
Teach a corner kick set piece: 3 different runs (near post, far post, edge of area) assigned to specific players.
Walk through it 3 times at zero speed.
Run it at game speed against passive defenders.
Run it against active defenders.
Add crowd noise (music) during active defender reps.
Evaluate: did every player hit their assigned zone? Were triggers read correctly?
Helpful cues
- Your role is your job, you cannot do someone else's job while doing yours
- Trigger words: if you hear 'now,' you move. If not, hold.
- Visualize your run before the corner is taken, see it first, do it second
