Your focus
Soccer requires repeated sprint efforts, not single explosive runs. Training repeated sprints with the ball builds both the physical capacity for sustained effort and the technical resilience to maintain skill quality under fatigue , a crucial match-fitness combination.
Mark a 30-yard course. Ball starts at one end.
Player sprints with the ball to the far end, executes a sharp turn, sprints back.
This is one repetition. Rest 20 seconds.
Complete 8 repetitions.
After reps 4, 6, and 8, player must perform a clean finishing touch on goal.
Coach rates the finishing quality to measure effort and composure under fatigue.
Goal
You're there when rep 8's dribble looks as controlled as rep 1's, if technique holds under fatigue, the effort is real without sacrificing quality.
Helpful cues
- Sprint numbers 5-8 matter as much as 1-4, don't let up
- Finishing under fatigue is when composure is earned
- Short steps when you're tired, don't overstride
