Your focus
Competitive effort is developed most powerfully through direct battles where only physical and mental maximum output determines the outcome. This drill strips away tactical complexity so that effort becomes the primary differentiator , building the mindset that effort is always a choice.
Mark a 12x12 yard grid. 3v3 possession, no goals.
Team that holds possession for 8 consecutive passes earns 1 point.
Every turnover restarts the count.
Players may only leave the grid to retrieve a ball that went out, then continue immediately.
3-minute rounds; rest 60 seconds. 4 rounds total.
Post-game: each player rates their own effort intensity 1-10.
Goal
It's clicking when winning the ball feels physical, you're outrunning, outworking, and out-wanting your opponent on every contested touch.
Helpful cues
- When your lungs burn, that's where effort starts, not ends
- Chase the ball like there's no tomorrow, every possession
- Your 10th sprint must look like your first sprint
