  • corner delivery

How it works

Execute defensive set pieces using only verbal communication to organize players into correct positions.

What you need

  • cones
  • soccer ball
  • scrimmage vests
  • goals

Your focus

Set piece organization is almost entirely communication-dependent. Training players to verbally organize , and to listen and respond quickly , develops the team communication quality that directly prevents goals in real matches.

1

Set up a defensive corner kick scenario. One player is designated organizer.

2

Before the corner is taken, the organizer must verbally assign every player to a zone.

3

Players can only move to their zone after hearing their name and assignment.

4

Corner is taken; team defends.

5

Coach evaluates: was every player assigned? Did they confirm? Was timing good?

6

Repeat 8 corners; rotate the organizer role after 4.

Helpful cues

  • Organizer: be loud, be clear, be fast, you have 8 seconds max
  • Everyone else: confirm your assignment before you move
  • If nobody organized you, ask, don't stand still and hope

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Coach assigns zones; players only practice confirming and moving.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Crowd noise (music/white noise) is added, communication must be even clearer.
