How it works
Develop goalkeeper-outfield communication during distribution, with outfield players actively calling for the ball.

Your focus
The goalkeeper is the communication hub of the team. Training GKs to direct distribution verbally, and outfield players to request it clearly, creates the organized buildup communication that is foundational to modern soccer.
Goalkeeper in goal; 4 outfield players positioned in a back-four.
Coach serves balls into the goalkeeper.
Goalkeeper must call 'keeper' to collect, then immediately organize distribution verbally ('six, come short,' 'four, wide right').
Outfield player called must call back 'ready' before receiving.
Build out from the back with small-sided activity defenders pressing.
Run for 10 minutes; evaluate clarity and speed of communication.
Helpful cues
- GK: name the player AND give them the picture ('Mike, turn, nobody on you')
- Outfield: show for the ball AND call, one without the other isn't enough
- Silence from the GK is confusion for everyone
