Your focus
First-step quickness and explosive power are decisive in 1v1 duels. This drill makes athleticism the differentiator in a competitive outcome, motivating maximal effort and embedding athletic habits in game-like pressure.
Place two mini goals 15 yards apart. Mark a center line.
Two players stand back-to-back at the center, one ball between them.
Coach calls a number; each player sprints around their cone (placed 3 yards to their side).
First player back wins the ball and attacks; other player defends.
Play until a goal is scored or ball goes out.
Best of 10 rounds determines the winner.
Goal
Success is winning the ball or forcing the defender back in the first two seconds, your explosive start made them react to you, not the other way around.
Helpful cues
- Start in an athletic ready stance, weight forward
- Explode off your back foot when the signal comes
