How it works

Execute a roll dodge at maximum power, then drive to the cage with explosive first steps.

What you need

  • cones
  • lacrosse stick
  • lacrosse ball

Your focus

The roll dodge is one of the most powerful evasion moves in lacrosse, but its effectiveness depends entirely on the explosive first step out of the dodge. This drill isolates that explosive exit.

1

Place a cone 8 yards from goal. Start behind the cone.

2

Sprint to the cone, simulate an attacker approaching.

3

Plant hard, execute a full roll dodge.

4

Drive to goal immediately after the dodge.

5

8 reps. Focus on the plant foot explosion out of the dodge.

Goal

You've got it when you execute a clean roll dodge and drive to goal in one continuous motion on 6 of 8 reps.

Helpful cues

  • Plant the inside foot hard, that's the power source of the dodge
  • Stay low through the spin, standing up loses momentum
  • Drive your first step after the dodge, don't glide out of it

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Walk through the dodge path without the sprint to build the footwork pattern.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Add a defender cone at the goal, must beat it to score.
