How it works

Build upper body strength specific to body checking and stick battling using push-ups on the lacrosse stick.

What you need

  • lacrosse stick

Your focus

Body checking and stick battles require significant upper body and core strength. Push-ups performed on the lacrosse stick build the same muscle groups used in checking while reinforcing stick grip and wrist stability.

1

Player places both hands on the lacrosse stick in push-up position (stick on the ground, player on top).

2

Player performs standard push-ups, maintaining full plank position throughout.

3

Complete 3 sets of 8-12 reps with 30 seconds rest between.

4

Advance to feet-elevated push-ups when 12 reps become easy.

Goal

It's working when you win at least half the contested 50-50 ground balls against a same-size opponent, lower body wins ground balls.

Helpful cues

  • Body stays plank straight, no sagging hips
  • Control the descent, slow down is where strength is built
  • Grip the stick firmly, this builds the hand strength you need in ground ball battles

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back
