How it works

Develop the footwork and body control needed to move through crease attack positions while maintaining stick protection and threat.

What you need

  • cones
  • lacrosse stick

Your focus

Crease attackers live in a phone-booth-sized space with constant body contact. Drilling footwork solo builds the low-center-of-gravity movement patterns and stick protection habits needed to stay effective in traffic , before adding defenders makes it chaotic.

1

Set 3 cones in a shallow arc near the top of the crease: upper-mid-left, upper-center, upper-mid-right.

2

Start at mid-center (your base position). Move to the left cone, step through to center cone, then step through to the right cone.

3

At each cone, plant and briefly hold your body position, low hips, stick protected, inside hand shielding the pocket.

4

Return to start and repeat in reverse (right to left).

5

Do 3 full circuits each direction. Add a ball to hold and protect once the footwork is clean.

Goal

You've got it when you can move through all three cone positions and back without losing stick protection or standing up straight.

Helpful cues

  • Stay low, don't pop up between cones
  • Shield your stick pocket with your inside arm at each stop
  • Hips always face the goal, not the cone
  • Short, choppy steps inside the crease, no big strides

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Remove one cone and just practice two positions, left and center. Focus on one transition at a time.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Add a ball and practice cradling with one hand while moving. Or do it against a timer, full circuit in under 5 seconds.

This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.

After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
