How it works

Set a legal off-ball screen and then slip to the open space when the defender cheats around the screen.

What you need

  • lacrosse stick
  • lacrosse ball
  • cones
  • goal

Your focus

Screens and slips are advanced off-ball movement concepts that create high-percentage shots. Training both the screener and the cutter in a single drill builds the two-player chemistry that makes this action dangerous.

1

Screener sets a legal screen (stationary, legal position) on the defender guarding the cutter.

2

Cutter uses the screen to get open.

3

Screener reads the defender: if defender goes over the screen, screener slips to the open space.

4

Ball carrier delivers to either the cutter or the screener based on the read. Run 8 reps.

Goal

You're there when the slip to open space creates a clear passing lane, screen set, defender committed, ball delivered before the defense adjusts.

Helpful cues

  • Screen must be stationary, don't move into the defender
  • Slip hard when you see the defender cheat over the top of your screen
  • Ball carrier: read the first open player, then deliver, don't hold the ball

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

No ball; cutter and screener walk through the movement pattern only.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Second defender helps on the slip; screener must choose to slip or re-screen.
