How it works

Maintain field vision and identify the correct post-dodge option while executing a live dodge against a defender.

What you need

  • lacrosse stick
  • lacrosse ball
  • cones
  • goal

Your focus

Most players lose field vision during the dodge , they look at the defender or the ball. Training eyes-up through the dodge allows players to see the developing play and attack the correct option immediately after beating their assignment.

1

Ball carrier executes a live dodge against a defender.

2

During the dodge, two other players move to open or cutting positions.

3

Player must call out the correct post-dodge option (name or 'crease,' 'skip') while completing the dodge.

4

Coach confirms whether the called option was correct before the player executes the pass or shot.

Goal

You're there when you identify the correct post-dodge option without stopping your feet to look, field vision through movement, not instead of it.

Helpful cues

  • Your eyes lead your decision, don't let the dodge consume all your attention
  • Pre-read the field before you initiate the dodge
  • See the open player before you beat your assignment, then it's already a great decision
