Your focus
Decision-making under real pressure requires players to process multiple variables simultaneously: defender position, shot clock, teammate locations, and own body position. Half-field 4v4 creates the cognitive complexity closest to a real game.
4v4 in the offensive half with a 20-second shot clock.
Offense must make at least two passes before shooting.
Coach awards decision quality points (separate from goals): 1 point for correct decision even if the execution fails.
Run 10 possessions and compare decision points to actual goals scored.
Goal
You're there when you make the right decision within 2 seconds of catching, not holding the ball waiting for something to open up, but reading and acting.
Helpful cues
- See the whole field before every pass, not just your immediate option
- A correct decision that fails is still a correct decision; learn from the execution, not the call
- Slow your mind to speed your game, one second of scanning saves three of scrambling
