3v2 Decision Drill

Decision Making

11 minutesintermediateteammental

Legend

  • three attackers
  • two defenders
  • ball
  • pass and run

How it works

Recognize and exploit a numerical advantage by making quick decisions in a 3v2 fast break.

What you need

  • lacrosse stick
  • lacrosse ball
  • cones
  • goal

Your focus

3v2 situations are among the most common transition opportunities in lacrosse. Players who can quickly read the defensive alignment and find the open teammate convert these advantages into goals at a much higher rate.

1

Three attackers run a fast break against two defenders.

2

The ball carrier must make a minimum of one pass before shooting.

3

Coach tracks correct decisions (passing away from pressure) versus incorrect (shooting into the defender).

4

Run 8 fast breaks, rotating players and positions.

Goal

It's clicking when the 3v2 ends in a clean shot or open feed, not a rushed attempt because the defenders recovered, but a real advantage converted.

Helpful cues

  • Attack the defender, force them to commit before you pass
  • The open teammate isn't always where you expect, scan quickly
  • The third player creates the advantage; use them

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge
