Your focus
Elite game focus must function under crowd noise, trash talk, high stakes, and pressure , not in a silent gym. Training focus against deliberate distraction calibrates the player's attention system to perform in realistic noisy, high-pressure environments. A player who can execute a perfect breakaway while teammates cheer and coaches call out distractions is ready for any game scenario.
Player takes a breakaway while the full team stands at the boards and applies controlled pressure, cheering, chanting, calling instructions.
Player must pick their move before starting, commit to it, and execute despite the noise.
Repeat 5 breakaways per player; teammates increase the pressure with each rep.
Debrief: did focus hold? Did the distraction change the move mid-execution?
Goal
You've got it when the noise and chaos around the net disappears for you, you see the goalie, pick your spot, and finish like no one's watching.
Helpful cues
- Your focus bubble includes you, the puck, and the goalie, everything else is outside it
- Decide before you skate, distractions cannot change a decision already made
- The noise is part of the game, train in the noise, compete in the noise
