How it works
Develop peak competitive drive and sustained maximum effort by running a scrimmage under explicit playoff elimination framing with a competitive consequence for the losing team.

Your focus
Competitive drive must be trained at maximum intensity to develop , moderate effort drills create moderate competitive habits. Framing a scrimmage as playoff elimination with a real consequence for the losing team creates the emotional environment where true competitive drive is accessed and practiced. Players who have rehearsed playing with maximum drive under consequence pressure perform significantly better when those situations arise in real competition.
Announce: This scrimmage is a one-game playoff, the losing team runs a full-ice conditioning drill at the end of practice.
Run a 10-minute full scrimmage with full competitive intensity; coaches do not intervene except for major safety issues.
Winning team is released immediately; losing team completes the conditioning drill together.
Review after: what competitive drive behaviors were highest? What effort lapses cost the losing team?
