Your focus
The power play is where confidence creates scoring advantages , hesitation allows penalty killers to recover and eliminates the player advantage. Training power play execution with deliberate confidence emphasis develops the decisive mindset that makes players dangerous rather than passive when the opportunity arises. Confident power play units convert at significantly higher rates at every level.
Set up a 5-on-4 power play unit drill in the offensive zone.
Coach calls confidence rep, every player must shoot, pass, or make a move within 1 second of receiving the puck.
Run 90-second segments with 30-second rests; track shots, passes, and scoring chances.
Debrief: who was most decisive? Who hesitated and cost the unit a chance?
Goal
You're doing it right when every touch on the power play is deliberate, confident one-timers, no hesitation on passes, immediate shots.
