How it works

Elevate compete level by running a series of sudden-death battle stations where one mistake eliminates you from the current round.

What you need

  • hockey stick
  • puck
  • ice

Your focus

Sudden-death consequences elevate the emotional stakes and force players to access their highest compete level on demand. The ability to raise intensity when the outcome is on the line is a defining characteristic of elite competitors. Regular exposure to sudden-death pressure scenarios in practice builds the competitive reflex needed in game overtime and elimination situations.

1

Set up 3 stations: (a) 1-on-1 corner battle, (b) 1-on-1 net-front, (c) 1-on-1 breakaway vs. goalie.

2

Players compete at each station; the loser of each battle is eliminated from that round.

3

Survivors advance to a final 1-on-1 at center ice with 30 seconds on the clock.

4

Winners are announced and the circuit restarts with new matchups; run 4 full circuits.

Goal

You've got it when you're still competing all-out at the last station, not just the first, the effort doesn't drop when the stakes get higher.

Helpful cues

  • Every single rep, compete like it's overtime of game 7
  • Compete doesn't wait for the right moment, it's always the right moment
  • What is your compete level right now, on a scale of 1-10? Get it to 10.
