How it works
Develop compete level by competing for a puck in the corner against a single opponent in a board battle.
What you need
- hockey stick
- puck
- ice
Your focus
Corners are where compete level is most visible and most consequential , players who win corners give their team possession repeatedly across a game. Structured corner battles train the mindset that every puck is worth fighting for, regardless of body size advantage. Players who practice competing hard in these situations develop it as an automatic response under pressure.
Coach fires a puck into the corner.
Two players of similar size race to the puck simultaneously from opposite blue lines.
Battle for the puck with legal stick and body work; player who wins possession must make a pass to a waiting teammate to complete the rep.
Switch pairings every 3 minutes; 5 rounds total.
Goal
You're there when you come out of the corner with the puck more often than not, and when you don't, you know exactly why.
Helpful cues
- First to the puck wins, skate through it, not to it
- Body position before stick work
- Dig until the whistle, don't give up midway
