How it works
Build explosive edge transitions through a T-shaped skating pattern that demands both forward and lateral direction changes.
What you need
- hockey stick
- puck
- cones
- ice
Your focus
The T-pattern mirrors real-game movements where players must pivot from lateral skating back into a forward burst. Edge-to-edge transitions are the foundation of elite agility. Training this pattern with a puck bridges the gap between skating drills and game-speed puck management.
Place 3 cones in a T shape, one at the base, one at each end of the crossbar, 10 feet apart.
Player starts at base cone, sprints to center crossbar cone, shuffles left to end cone, shuffles back to center, shuffles right to far cone, shuffles back to center, then sprints back to base.
Player carries a puck throughout the entire pattern.
Run twice per player, resting 30 seconds between reps.
Goal
You've nailed it when your edges grip through every turn in the T-pattern, no drifting sideways, no stumbling, and you feel in control the whole way.
Helpful cues
- Stay low in your shuffle, don't stand up
- Chop your feet quickly on the lateral moves
- Push through the full blade on every stride

Build a practice plan
Add drills, keep the plan in this browser, then share a link with your staff or parents. This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.
After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
