Your focus
Elite flag football throwing combines accuracy with compressed decision windows. The QB must complete a three-option decision tree while a rusher arrives, preventing the luxury of finding the ideal solution. This drill mirrors the precise challenge of high-level flag football QB play where both the mind and the arm must function at their best simultaneously.
Set three receivers in different coverage situations (one open short, one open mid, one contested deep); a pass rusher releases at the snap.
QB reads the options in a defined priority order based on the coverage (short is primary if defender is over the middle, deep is primary if the safety is out of position).
QB delivers the throw as the rusher closes; a flag pull before the throw counts as a sack.
Grade decision correctness (3 points), throw accuracy (3 points), and decision speed (was the correct read taken or was time wasted on wrong reads).
Goal
You've got it when your three-option read under a live rush ends with a correct throw to the right receiver, not a panic throw.
Helpful cues
- You have one second per read: 1-2-3 and throw
- The rusher is a timer: your reads happen before they arrive
- Throwing the right ball to the wrong receiver is still a bad decision
